The Marriage and Family Part of the Civil Code is not a new creation but a continuation and development of the 2001 Marriage Law and related judicial interpretations. Its greatest contribution is to implement the first paragraph of Article 49 of the Constitution, clearly stating in the general provisions that "marriage and family are protected by the state" (Article 1041, Paragraph 1), and to implement this in the modification of specific rules.
